Engaging in Life - Golf Tournie

Someone I know works at a hospital that is raising money for their cancer center through a golf-a-thon. And his son is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for a rare blood disease (Langerhans cell histiocytosis) at that same hospital. Russ' goal is 200 holes of golf in a day! If you can spare some change and want to help in the cause, please let me know. The company I work for is gathering donations of any size this week.

Dreeeeeeam, Dream, Dream, Dream

This week in honor of the Martin Luther King holiday and his "I have a dream" speech , I've been contemplating dreams and what my "dream" speech would be if I were to make one. I'm having trouble deciding on mine. What is your dream ? Your greatest hope ? What do you strive for? P.S. - Wouldn't you agree that years always sound better in scores?

Reaching Out

The recent earthquake in Haiti and resulting catastrophe has weighed heavy on my heart and mind these past few days, making me wish I were trained in rescue efforts and could do something significant to help. I can't image the changes in the lives of those who were affected by the earthquake--the stress, the sorrow, the disorganization, the fear and limitations of services and protection that they are experiencing. Aside from prayers, the only thing I can think of is some type of financial contribution. There are several places collecting donations for the relief effort. If you are looking for a reputable organization to donate through check here or here . Costco is also accepting donations on behalf of the Red Cross. May the Lord watch over those affected by this disaster and thos...

Poetry Corner

Image originally seen on freefoto.com This is a poem I have loved since my early college days. It reminds me to get out and do some planting. Several people have said they feel it is depressing. I find it full of hope and thought of it after reading a friend's recent post about a relationship trial she has been having. Comes the Dawn by Veronica A. Shoffstall After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't always mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much so you pl...
